Creating and maintaining healthy indoor air quality in schools & childcare is an unique challenge. Children are particularly vulnerable to air pollution. Their lung development is directly affected by air pollution. Prolonged exposure to polluted air during the development phase can lead to complications later in life. A high level of absent children, can be a linked to prolonged air pollution exposure. Recent studies suggests that poor indoor air quality may directly reduce the ability to perform specific mental tasks and even reduce the cognitive development.

VFA Solutions has extensive experience in working together with schools and childcare facilities to provide air cleaning solutions that significantly improves the air quality in these institutions. In a cooperation with TNO (Dutch centre for research), it has been demonstrated that VFA Solutions products are able to reduce the amount of air pollution exposure for children and teachers by up to 85%. These results are achieved in cooperation with the school and are divided in three steps to solve the problem: problem analysis, solution design and implementation & monitoring.

Most air filtration systems only filter particles larger than 0.3 microns. VFA Solutions is different. VFA Solutions’ filtration technology is proven to filter up to 99.97% of all particles down to 0.02 microns. Independent testing by government agencies verifies the effectiveness of VFA Solutions’ technology against ultrafine particles.

Particulate Matter (ultrafine particles) – Students and teachers in schools located nearby city centres, highways and industrial sites risk exposure to particulate matter. Particulate matter can reach deep into the lungs causing serious health damage. Ultrafine particles are smaller than 0.1 microns. Around 90% of all airborne particles are this size. The primary sources of ultrafine particles are motor vehicles, refineries and industrial plants. The small size of ultrafine particles enables them to be easily inhaled and reach deep into the lungs where they can be absorbed into the blood. Ultrafine particles have been linked to heart attacks, strokes, asthma and even cancer.

Learning performance – It is proven that poor indoor air quality has a negative impact on learning performance. Tasks involving calculation, memory and focus are especially hindered by poor indoor air quality.

Infectious diseases – Clean indoor air results in better hygiene which contributes to a healthier environment. High levels of CO₂ and air borne dust are proven to correlate with increased sickness among children and teachers.

Comfort – For a productive learning experience a healthy indoor air quality is required. A constant temperature, the right relative humidity, absence of drafts and bad smells are important aspects of a productive indoor climate.

Lack of fresh air

In places where many people gather together, like schools and day care centres, lack of fresh air can often significantly increase CO2 levels. The result is people feeling tired and hazy, causing headaches, irritated eyes and more. The only solution is taking out stuffy air and bringing in fresh air.
