Reducing Health Risks from Diesel Emissions (UFP) in Logistic Warehouses with ASPRA

ENSURING SAFE WORKING CONDITIONS WITH ASPRA L 5000 RECIRCULATION AIR PURIFIERS

Indoor testing and operation of diesel-powered construction machinery can lead to high concentrations of harmful ultrafine particles (UFPs), posing significant health risks to employees. To comply with stringent regulations and maintain a safe work environment, it is crucial to control these emissions effectively.

The ASPRA L 5000 recirculation air purifiers (link) provide an innovative solution by strategically purifying the air in critical areas of the warehouse. This approach not only ensures that diesel emission values remain well below the maximum allowable concentrations but also offers a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional high-volume ventilation methods.

      Summary

      Problem

Indoor diesel motor emissions cause health risks for employees.

      Solution

Strategic placement of recirculation systems at inbound, outbound and workshop for purifying and removal of UFPs, as well as quality sensors for 24/7 monitoring of air quality.

      Result

Safe working conditions: diesel emission values are even lower than the max allowable concentration and regulatory guidelines.

      Integrated Approach

      FROM PROBLEM TO SOLUTION

      1. Problem Description

Construction machinery (e.g. mini excavators, wheel loaders, and compact track loaders) are configured and tested indoors. This means that the motors are operated potentially for several hours, including testing and driving around within the warehouse and from inbound and to outbound.

These actions generate high concentration of fine dust, mainly Ultrafine Particles (UFP’s) which can be hazardous for health. Therefore there are strict regulation regarding such working conditions and hence diesel emissions must be under control at all times.

      2. The Solution

Several ASPRA L 5000 recirculation air purifiers were implemented in strategic areas at inbound, outbound, and workshop zones to purify and remove airborne particles, especially ultrafine particles, ensuring a healthy work environment.

Additionally, indoor air quality sensors were installed for continuous 24/7 monitoring of particle concentrations (PM10, PM2.5, and PM1).

      3. The Result

The ASPRA system effectively ensures safe and clean air by reducing diesel motor emissions and other airborne particles to levels that comply with and exceed regulatory standards. Continuous monitoring and control of air quality are maintained.

The ASPRA system has proven to be an effective and sustainable alternative to high-volume ventilation, resulting in significant cost savings and operational flexibility.
